Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Question: I need a hoop/poi/wand to dance with during an online flow arts class, how can I get one? Answer: You can purchase a hoop, a set of poi, or a wand in our online shop @ https://sacramentoflowarts.square.site . Please also note that many of the online classes also offer a special discount for purchasing a prop when you purchase a class. See each class registration page for details.
  2. Question: How do I join the Zoom online classes? Answer: Once you’ve registered and completed check out @ https://sacramentoflowarts.square.site, you will be emailed the Zoom meeting ID # and meeting password within 24 hours to the email you specified in your checkout process.
  3. Question: What are flow arts? Answer: The term “flow arts” encompasses a wide variety of prop-based dances and manipulations, including but not limited to: hula hoops, poi, levi-wands, staff, fans, flags, contact juggling and more. A friend once joked that “anything is a flow prop” if you manipulate the object 🙂
  4. Question: What is your refund/cancellation / rescheduling policy for online classes? Answer:
  • Class registration closes 1 hour prior to the event. 
  • Single classes must be redeemed on the date specified during checkout, or rescheduled and redeemed within 30 days of purchase. Please contact sacramentoflowarts@gmail.com to reschedule. 
  • 5 pack classes are valid for 90 days from purchase, all 5 classes must be registered for and redeemed within 90 days of purchase. No refunds will be given for unused classes from a 5 class pack. Rescheduling is allowed if
  • If technical difficulties prevent you from attending the online class, you may reschedule as outlined above in item 2, but no refunds will be given. 
  • If technical difficulties prevent the instructor from attending online class, you may reschedule your class to a future date or you may choose to receive a refund initiated by the instructor within 48 hours of the canceled event, please note that actual refund time may take up to 5-7 business days due to Square’s refund processing timeline. 4. Question: What do I need to join an online class? Answer: You will need to register for a Zoom.us account if you don’t already have one. You will also need either a smartphone, tablet or computer with high speed internet access to join the Zoom meeting. You will also need a prop (hoop, poi or wand). Please contact us if you need to purchase a prop before class and we can direct you to our shop to purchase a ready-made or custom prop.

5. Question: What is your experience in teaching flow arts? Answer: The founder of SacramentoHoopDance.com and SacramentoFlowArts.com, Allison, has been teaching flow arts since 2007 to all ages. She has a passion for flow with all props, including hoops, wands and poi. Allison has been hooping since March 2007, when the hoop found her in Santa Cruz while she was attending UCSC. Allison was lucky enough to attend live HoopGirl hoopdance trainings, and she completed Levels 1 – 3 with Christabel “HoopGirl” Zamor in San Francisco, CA between December 2007- April 2009 and was honored to assist in training more HoopGirl teachers during additional 2012 level 1 trainings alongside Christabel. Allison has also completed trainings from Hoopnotica : HoopDance Levels 1 + 2, as well as Hoopnotica FIT and Hoopnotica Minis, training with Pamela Crawford. In addition, she is CPR and first aid certified and is an AFAA certified group fitness instructor, and a CA certified Massage Therapist (#30710), and is always fully insured. Allison first picked up a Levi-wand in May 2009, and played with poi for the first time in April 2008. Allison also organized the first flow arts festival for Sacramento on June 8th, 2013, the 2nd installment on Sunday, Sept. 7th, 2014, and the 3rd annual meeting on October 17th, 2015 – in the form of the Sacramento Community Spin Festival, with the assistance of two dedicated spinners and friends, Marshall Moonseed and Leah Reese. These were free, community-collaborated events dedicated to spreading the spin-love through teaching, performing and peace & friendship.
